Update: 12.12.2024: First 3 Sanguinary Guard ready to paint
Other Blood Angels conversions
Time for another conversion. And what better subjects than the Sanguinary Guard? The golden elite of the Blood Angels, the Seraphs, the personal guard of Dante himself. But oh my, how they masacred my boys in their latest iteration (I know, there are different opinions and already discussed in much detail, so I will not go on)
Anyway, I already converted my first Sanguinary Guard from Custodian Wardens and now it’s time to find new victims … inspiration.
As already mentioned in my conversion post for the Assault Terminators, this year I got my hands on the Dark Angels Inner Circle Taskforce and decided to use it for upgrading my Blood Angels army by some key units – so here we are: Sanguinary Guard from Inner Circle Companions!

The companions are a really good fit I think. Their poses are dynamic, the robes are really cool, the swords are pretty stylish and perfect as encarmine blades. Even a standard bearer is already there! And what is really nice, is that all companions have two different poses, so you can build all 6 of them and none will look too much like the others.
Overall, convertig was not much harder than with the Terminators. I replaced a lot of parts and only hat to take care of the occasional Dark Angels iconography. Mainly the swords on the chest pieces, the symbols on the gun holster and some minor details here and there. But nothing you can’t grind off and/or replace with other parts.
I think the most iconic part of the Sanguinary Guard are their wings and luckily, I got my hands on a few jump packs from the older models. They fit extremly well on the back of the Companions and you only have to be careful with the shoulder pads. There might be some work needed to make the wings fit.
Beside that, I used heads and shoulder pads from the old Sanguinary Guard as well and even cut out an angelic boltgun to add it to one of my marines. Unfortunately I forgot to equip my third marine with a pistol and will have to add it later on >.<
Older Sanguinary Guard conversions
Of course those are not my first Sanguinary Guard and to be honest, I liked the old models more than the new ones, but they were still pretty odd in their proportions. So I converted my first squad as well, with the help of some poor old Custodes Wardens 🙂
